To emphasise this point, the local council has made a special sign to warn pedestrians that their safety is their responsibility and theirs alone.

This street is in a 50km/h zone, which is absurd given the amount of pedestrian & bicycle traffic here, particularly on weekends - it should be 30km/h. What is wrong with installing speed bumps before the crossing or raising the road at crossings for pedestrians & bicycles like other civilised countries?
The number of bogans that hoon along here is frightening.
